It really is no surprise that this movie did this well. With Halloween coming up people want to be scared and if you have seen any of the other Saw movies you know that this movie is as close to a sure thing as possible. A huge surprise is the fact that the Departed is still holding strong in the number 2 spot. It has been in that number 2 spot since it fell from number 1 the weekend after its opening weekend. This could be trouble for Scorsese though, the academy is known for snubbing films with great commercial success...
The number 3 spot was taken by the Prestige, which I still haven't seen. Flags of our Fathers is looking strong in the number 4 spot which leads me to think that this film might not be as big of a bomb as I had previously thought. They are still obviously very far away from making their money back but this could be the little engine that could. In last place is Running with Scissors it did very well considering it only opened in 500 screens. It did however manage to average a little over $4,000 in ticket sales per screen. Looks like it could be a success.
That's it. |
