A Day Late

I know I am a day late with the Box Office Predictions.

Here they go.

  1. Jackass Number Two

This is obviously going to open strong and kill its entire competition. It's Tom and Jerry brought to life with scatological humor thrown into the mix. Releasing this movie is basically like printing your own money.

  2. Gridiron Gang

People like movies about sports. Plus it has a guy from the WWE. I think its going to stay strong in the top 10.

  3. Flyboys

Even though I think this movie is going to absolutely suck I still think it can do really well this weekend. Expect a huge drop by next weekend though. If you feel the need to watch a movie about World War I just save your money and wait for Clint Eastwood's new movie Flags of Our Fathers. Skip this.

  4. All the Kings Men

I have a tough time picking the third spot. I couldn't decide if a Kung- Fu movie would take the third spot or a movie about politics. Then I remembered that the average movie goer will not read subtitles and opted for All the Kings Men. It's a remake. Skip this.

  5. Jet-Li Fearless

I always get suspicious about a movie when the producers of the film feel the need to place the stars name in front of the movie. It basically tells me that the movie isn't strong enough to sell itself and that they are banking on the fact that the films star has previously done well. I am still going to watch this. I like movies where people hit each other.

  6. The Black Dahlia

It had nothing but bad reviews and a crappy opening weekend. It does have nudity though.

  7. The Covenant

Don't watch this. If this makes enough money they might make a sequel.

  8. Little Miss Sunshine

The little engine that could. Watch this.

  9. The Last Kiss.

It's O.K. Its nothing special. It's basically the movie Reality Bites but in a higher tax bracket.

  10. Crank

    It's an adrenaline knockout.

I should write tag lines.

Frank Miller's 300
When I was in grade school our school mascot was the Spartans.

It was never anything like this.

Click on the above link and watch and be amazed at Frank Millers graphic novel turned feature film.

Judge this book by its cover.

* Update

Warner Brothers decided it wasn't a good business practice to release a PROMOTIONAL trailer to the masses.
They decided to shut down almost every single copy of this trailer.
They suck.
I guess they don't want to generate any sort of buzz for this movie.

If you did see it then you know how great it looked and if you didn't ....well I am going to be searching for it online all weekend..

So just check back periodically and maybe someone somewhere will have the balls to host it.

It really does look kick ass.

Stupid Warner Brothers.

* Update Part Two

Found it.

*Update Part Three

Gone.

*Update Four

Here it is.... Check it out before it gets taken down.
Again.

The Office

Do you know what I like the most about the office?

Its not the witty dialog or the tension between Jim and Pam. Or even Steve Carrell.

Its the theme song.

The Office Premiers tonight and the cast has been doing a vicious talk show tour.

I really hope Steve Carrell's movie career bombs so that he never leaves T.V. He is just so great on Television. I have been a huge fan of his ever since the Daily Show but other than Little Miss Sunshine, I haven't really enjoyed his films.

Watch Carrell on Leno here.

and part two here

He is even a great talk show guest.

Steve Carrell is great under pressure.

Rainn Wilson, Steve Carrells sidekick, was on The Ellen Show.

and part two here

Dwight, played by Rainn Wilson, is my second favorite character on the show. Dwight's facial expression can sometimes make a scene.

Rainn makes dead pan cool again.

The Office is back and I am excited.

Check it out.

Trivia

In case you were wondering what the answer to the last trivia question was, it was B. Vince Vaughn was NOT in There is Something About Mary.

The response to the last trivia question was better than I had expected.
So it could be labeled a success.
I gave out a handful of prizes and everyone seemed to be happy about it, so I will make the trivia game available every other day or so.

Today's question is

Paul Haggis is fast becoming a trademark. Certain Directors need only to put their names on a project and people will instantly run to the movie theaters. Haggis is fast becoming one of these Directors/Screenwriter.

Which of the Follow has Paul Haggis NOT been a part of?

A. The Facts of Life.
B. Crash
C. Million Dollar Baby
D. Mystic River

Don't Google this
You only cheat yourself.

Email me with the correct answer and you win a prize. Our prizes are once again provided by our awesome sponsors at PCTV4Me. Watch T.V. live on your computer anywhere you go.

NetFlix Tuesday

1. Stick It

From the writers of Bring it on.
Comes Stick it.
That’s it.

2. The Devil and Daniel Johnston

It’s a documentary about a manic-depressive musical genius with an enormous cult following.

This is what he looks like

Sometimes just being a rock star isn’t enough to get you laid.

3. My Name is Earl Season 1

Greg Garcia the creator of My Name is Earl was also responsible for the CBS sitcom “Yes,Dear”. Buy this anyway.

4. Stay Alive

It’s a video game movie staring the kid from Malcolm in the Middle.

The video game comes alive

*Spoiler Alert*

It sucks.

5. Hard Candy

A movie about online predators and the girls who fall prey to their advances.

What did I learn from this movie?

If you aren’t careful a 12 year old girl might cut your balls off.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip saved my Television.

Holy shit, how did this show get on the air?

When Sports Night was canceled I actually saw my Television screen cry. Actual tears streamed from the top of my cable box to the bottom of my Television set. I could empathize with my T.V. It was as though my T.V. Had lost its purpose.

It became obsolete.

Without good programming a television set is just a box with tubes and wires.

Aaron Sorkin, the creator of Sports Night then came back with a Television show about the ongoings at the White House. Even though I was a huge fan of Mr. Sorkin's work I didn't even give The West Wing a chance.

I felt as though our real president was entertainment enough.

So when I heard about his new show,Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,I became excited. From what I had read, it was a Television show about a Television show and well that is what Sports Night was all about.

Well.......

The first 10 minutes won me over. The opening monologue was just stunning. There is no better word to describe it than stunning. I kept asking myself the same question over and over. How did this get on the air?

How did this monologue get on the air?

We live in a time where live television is delayed. Where shows are screened over and over and exhaustedly tested. Where monkeys in suits sit in a room pushing censorship buttons at random for $10 an hour.

How this show criticized everything that is wrong with Television on its premier night and all within the first 10 minutes is beyond me.

And it makes me excited.

I needed this show to have been longer. I needed more. I wanted another hour.

I wanted to get to know these characters better and I needed more of that great dialog.

That dialog was feeding my starved attention span. It was feeding me entertainment with every word.

Simply put

The dialog killed and the art direction was inspired. It made it seem as though the show was being shot in some swanky Vegas lounge and not in some dingy studio.

It made me excited about television again.

All of this brought to you by the same guy who just a couple of years ago was stopped at an airport for smuggling a personal stash of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

If this is the kind of writing that gets accomplished while on mushrooms then we should all be seeing colors.

Nbc must really be hurting for talent if it lets Mr.Sorkin get away with making fun of them on their own airwaves. Every other line from the opening monologue was a jab at Nbc programming.

It caught my attention.

This was inspired Television.

And all of this brought to you by the network that spoon feeds us Fear Factor once a week.

Weekend Box Office Report

Here is this week's box office report courtesy of Boxofficemojo.com.

I was almost right.

I was right on the money with the new releases but I need to rethink my strategy when it comes to the movies already out.

4 out of 10 isn’t so bad. Plus I wasn’t that off.

Seems as though the studios are hoarding all their good movies until Oscar season in November.

This is the second week that nothing but filler as been released. The only new movie that I saw this weekend was The Last Kiss and I will review that later today. I think it deserves its own post.

I stayed as far away from the Gridiron Gang but it seems $15 million worth of people didn’t. The Black Dahlia managed to take the second spot even with nothing but bad reviews. Everyone’s Hero took the bronze, Like I said these animated movies are not the cash cows they used to be. Everyone’s Hero only took in $6 million and probably had a budget closer to the $50 million dollar range. That movie just looked bad. It could conceivably make its money back with Dvd sales and international releases but I am pretty sure it will be considered a failure.

The only thing that made me happy about this weeks top 10 is watching Little Miss Sunshine struggling to stay in the top 10. I am so glad that movie is close to breaking the $50million mark. It really is one of the best movies of this year. Go out and watch it now. Believe the hype.

Still haven’t seen Hollywoodland. I think it was just demoted to “waiting until the dvd come out” Status.
