Friday Night Lights on a Monday night.

My Dv-r is completely overwhelmed.
My T.V watching time has become very limited since I started back up with school. If it wasn't for my Digital video recorder I would never watch any T.V. With the Dv-r you can watch any show you want on your time. There is no such thing as a T.V. Guide for me I am also not a slave to time constraints and awkward T.V. Scheduling.
I am usually busy at night during the week with other things. I have a life to live and I no longer live my life around Must See T.V.
Tonight I had the extreme pleasure of watching Friday Night Lights.
On a Monday night.
I am not a big fan of of High School based shows and I think anyone who is needs to sit down and relive their high school experiences privately instead of force feeding them to me during prime time.
This show isn't about High School Football.
High School football is just the co-star in this new drama from Nbc.
This show is about passion and how it can bring people together.
I really enjoy shows where the characters are passionate about something and have nothing but that certain passion on their minds.
Watching characters struggle for that passion and fight for it is really intriguing to me. It keeps me excited about a show and makes me think about my own life.
Am I passionate about anything?
I haven't figured that out yet.
So the answer is no.
After watching the show I asked myself why it was that I liked it so much.
The plot line is identical to almost any High School football movie in recent memory.
But yet I found myself excited during the football game sequences and I figured out why.
The editing with its mixing of plot lines and quick cuts makes the show move fast and kept me informed about multiple story lines all at once.
Also the marriage between the cinematography and the music was incredible. The music brought out emotion through all the scenes and made the characters a little more interesting.
Explosions in the Sky the band responsible for evoking much of the shows energy and emotions was also responsible for the films soundtrack.
Apparently the write/director of the T.V show and movie Peter Berg is a huge fan.
This show first started out as a book then it was turned into a movie and now its a weekly T.V. Show on Nbc.
Do I think the shows concept is strong enough to survive week after week?
No. I really don't
But I think it will be interesting to watch this season and see what else they can come up with.
Oh I almost forgot.
High Defintion was invented for shows like this one.
The image is very crisp.
If you don't have HD you should stay away from T.V. watching and rent movies from Netflix instead. |
